About the event

Join us from 7pm to collect your drinks as our exceptional cellist, Kirsten Jenson, performs solo Bach to set the scene for an evening of musical geniuses.

As you sit down to an atmospheric candle-lit first half, the Icon Quartet will introduce Mozart's fitting 'Spring' Quartet no.14 k.387, with a brief introduction of his prodigious gifts and the legacy he left behind after his tragic death far too young.

An interval follows with an opportunity to refill your glasses, before we launch into our next and final piece, Mendelssohn's String Quartet no.2 in A minor Op 13 (a true piece of the Romantic era, and inspired by young love). Worlds apart from Mozart in upbringing and lifestyle, but also the victim of an untimely death, we will explore what made Mendelssohn's music stand the test of time, and whether his music may have shown more originality than that of Mozart...

We look forward to seeing you on 21 March.
