Time & Location

Landmark Arts Centre, Ferry Rd, Teddington TW11 9NN, UK
About the event
Measuring seven metres in diameter and suspended inside the vast space of the Landmark Arts Centre building in Teddington, Gaia features high-resolution NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface and a surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer, Dan Jones. The installation creates a sense of the ‘Overview Effect,’ which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. Common features of this experience for astronauts are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment. Gaia is a visual representation of the fragility and beauty of the earth.
Icon Strings will present a first half of Classical music with a theme around the Earth and time, and then to celebrate to the transience of time and passing seasons, the second half will be full of popular music favourites in a Bridgerton-esque style!
